AquaStik Epoxy Putty from Two Little Fishies is a versatile epoxy putty designed for attaching various aquascaping items. This nontoxic epoxy is perfect for bonding corals, live rock, gorgonians, plants, and other materials either to each other or directly to glass. The unique red color blends well with coralline algae, while the grey version fits seamlessly with live rock.
After it is fully cured, AquaStik Epoxy Putty can be drilled, sanded, or even sawed. It adheres to multiple surfaces, including wood, concrete, ceramic, acrylic, metal, and fiberglass. You can mix it in just one minute, and it hardens in 20 minutes, achieving full cure in 24 hours. AquaStik is suitable for both marine and freshwater aquariums, ponds, paludariums, as well as reptile and small animal habitats.
Directions for Use:
- Peel back the plastic wrapper enough to twist or cut off the amount of AquaStik you need.
- To mix, knead the putty with your fingers for about one minute until it reaches a uniform color (gloves may be used for those with sensitive skin).
- Press and hold the putty in place for 2 minutes.
- It is important to apply to the surface within 2 minutes of mixing. You will have about 5 minutes of working time.
- Although the mixed epoxy does not have high bond strength initially, it will harden after 20 minutes and fully cure in 24 hours.
- Store any unmixed portion back in the tube for later use.
Note: Using large quantities may temporarily cause your protein skimmer to foam excessively, so it is advisable to turn off the skimmer for 36 hours after use.
For enhanced structural bonds, consider using plastic rods. Avoid cutting off any excess epoxy, as this may weaken the attachment. Over time, coralline algae will coat the exposed epoxy, and corals will grow over it, creating a stronger bond.
For attaching fragmented branches of Acropora and other stony corals, surround the base with epoxy and press it into a hole in the rock. You may use a toothpick or plastic rod inserted into the base for additional support, especially for larger pieces or soft corals.
For Gorgonians: If there is a base, place epoxy underneath it and push the base into a deep depression in the rock, holding it in place for 2 minutes. You can use rubber bands, plastic cable ties, monofilament line, or a clamping device to secure large pieces until the epoxy cures. Remove the clamp or cut the temporary bands after 24 hours. If the gorgonian has no base, clean about 1 inch of live tissue from the woody skeleton at the bottom of the stem. Cover the exposed area with sufficient epoxy to hold it firmly when inserted into a hole in the rock. Pushing the excess epoxy down into the hole and around the stem will help secure it. Plastic toothpick shims can also be used to support particularly large specimens.
For freshwater planted aquariums and paludariums: AquaStik can be utilized to attach Java Fern, Java Moss, Bolbitis, Riccia, Anubias species, and other plants to wood and rocks.
