Two Little Fishies PhosBan 150g phosphate removing filter media permanently removes phosphate
PhosBan from Two Little Fishies is a highly regarded chemical filter media that effectively removes phosphate without leaching any substances back into your aquarium. It boasts the largest adsorption capacity among phosphate filtering media. Made from ferric oxide hydroxide-based granules, it also absorbs organics and other pollutants.
This product is simple to use, just like activated carbon, and it comes with a filter bag. It is non-toxic and can last several months in typical aquariums, making it suitable for both saltwater and freshwater environments.
Key Features:
- Great for both saltwater and freshwater aquariums
- Non-toxic filter media that lasts several months
- Permanently removes phosphate
- 150 gram jar includes a filter bag and treats up to 565 liters
Directions for Use:
Before using PhosBan, you may rinse it briefly. However, please do not stir the granules, as they are fragile and may become pulverized. Place PhosBan in a tightly-packed media bag or between two layers of fine filter floss in any flow-through filter or filter chamber, ensuring that water flows through it evenly.
For optimal results, PhosBan works best in an up-flow filter, such as the PhosBan Reactor. Just be sure to reduce the flow enough to prevent the granules from tumbling, which could grind them into powder.
Recommended Usage:
Use 50 grams for every 200 liters of saltwater or 50 grams for 400 liters of freshwater. PhosBan is safe for use at more than five times the recommended quantity. However, at high dosages, it may lead to a drop in alkalinity, so it is important to monitor alkalinity levels and adjust with a buffer or other supplements if needed. The effectiveness of PhosBan can last for several months, depending on the phosphate concentration in your aquarium. Replace it when phosphate levels begin to rise.
Contents:
Synthetic ferrous oxide hydroxide.
Storage:
Keep PhosBan in a tightly closed container. It has a shelf life of at least three years when stored properly.
General Information:
PhosBan is a synthetic ferric oxide hydroxide in granular form, designed specifically for aquarium filters. Its porous structure provides a high surface area with numerous adsorption sites, allowing it to bind large quantities of phosphate. Additionally, PhosBan can adsorb silicate, arsenic, and water-staining organic compounds without releasing any substances back into the water, even after reaching full saturation. It is safe for continuous use in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums and ponds.
To prevent issues associated with phosphate accumulation, aim to maintain phosphate levels below 0.015 ppm as P. This can easily be achieved by using PhosBan on a permanent basis. It is advisable to use PhosBan right from the start when setting up a new aquarium, as this will help ensure that PO4 concentrations do not rise initially. With PhosBan, you can maintain larger fish populations without the risk of PO4 accumulation. In reef aquariums, it helps maintain the low phosphate levels necessary for the rapid growth of both hard and soft corals.
Warning:
Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. Do not ingest. Keep away from food and do not inhale dust. It is advisable to use a dust mask when handling the product. In the event of contact with skin, wash with soap and plenty of water. If it gets into the eyes, flush with plenty of water and seek medical attention. This product is intended for aquarium use only and should be kept out of reach of children.
