D-D H2Ocean salt

The formulation for H2Ocean+ salt has been developed by D-D following many months of testing and evaluation. This salt is designed to dissolve quickly and easily, providing a specific chemistry that we believe is the best formulation for maintaining a healthy reef. It also allows for regular water changes while keeping a natural balance.

Calcium and magnesium levels are boosted to replace what is used up through coral growth in the aquarium, while chloride levels are slightly lowered to facilitate the addition of calcium and magnesium chloride with minimal impact on the chloride balance.

Its natural origin ensures that the salt contains all 70 main and trace elements in the correct proportions, mixed to a homogeneous blend by nature.

Balanced Formula

In nature, there is a natural balance between calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels. Many salts tend to have either unnaturally high calcium or high alkalinity levels, which means that extra buffer or calcium is often required to restore the natural balance. H2Ocean reef salt maintains the calcium and alkalinity in the correct ratios, keeping the ionic balance in equilibrium with natural levels, which is crucial for healthy coral growth.

Optimum Chemistry

The formulation for H2Ocean salt has been continuously developed by D-D over the years. This salt dissolves quickly and easily, featuring a specific chemistry that we consider to be the ideal formulation for maintaining a healthy reef and enabling regular water changes while preserving a natural balance. Calcium and magnesium levels are tailored to replace those consumed through coral growth, and chloride levels are slightly reduced to facilitate the addition of calcium and magnesium chloride without significantly affecting the chloride balance.

Low Hydration

Both H2Ocean reef salt formulations have an exceptionally low hydration level compared to many other salts. This is achieved through production under strictly controlled conditions to prevent atmospheric moisture from being absorbed, making it 3% stronger. Therefore, you get more salt and less water in your package.

Magnesium Pro Plus Formula

Many salts focus on boosting calcium levels while neglecting magnesium. However, maintaining the correct magnesium concentration is equally important in a reef aquarium and will make it easier to keep stable calcium, pH, and alkalinity levels.

Mixing & Salinity Measurement

The amount of saltwater that can be made from a single bucket of salt depends on the final salinity to which the salt solution is mixed. For a reef aquarium, we recommend mixing to a salinity of 35.0 ppt and suggest using the D-D Portable SEAWATER refractometer for accurate and consistent salinity measurements. The salt should be added to the aquarium once it is clear, usually after 30 minutes of mixing. Extended mixing times may lead to reactions with CO2 in the atmosphere, resulting in slight precipitation of calcium carbonate.

Use of RO Water

H2Ocean Pro+ salt is recommended for use with Reverse Osmosis water or soft water with a calcium level below 30 mg/l. RO water effectively removes undesirable ions such as phosphate and nitrate from your tap water, which could otherwise contribute to nuisance algae in your aquarium. D-D offers a range of RO units suitable for every tank size.
