Nannochloropsis is an essential part of the marine food chain, comprised of single-cell organisms known as phytoplankton. These tiny plants produce nearly all the biomolecules necessary for the growth of zooplankton and larger filter feeders like molluscs (flame scallops, clams, oysters, etc.), sponges, and coral. Among the various algae in aquaculture, Nannochloropsis stands out. It produces all the essential amino acids required for the development of filter feeders and fish, along with crucial omega 3 acids, EPA and DHA.

While Nannochloropsis is primarily recognized for its production of EPA, we have carefully selected a strain and cultivation method that also ensures a good yield of DHA. EPA and DHA are omega 3 acids, also known as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), which fish cannot synthesize on their own. Therefore, it is important for their diets to include these nutrients. These fats are vital for developing pigments (colors) and play a significant role in the healthy development of fish and human nervous systems. This is part of the reason why it is recommended to eat fatty fish like salmon.

NannoFlakes are created by drying Nannochloropsis concentrate and pressing it into flakes. They are perfectly suited for both freshwater and saltwater fish. In terms of nutritional value, NannoFlakes surpass other options like spirulina flakes (which actually come from cyanobacteria, not algae) when it comes to omega 3 fats and amino acid composition.
