Unlike other refugium substrates that require at least 6 inches (15 cm) of deep sand bed (DSB) for effective denitrification, Miracle Mud only needs a layer of 1 inch (2.5 cm). It is wise to do your homework and compare prices; other products can cost four to six times more!

Unlike other refugium substrates on the market, Miracle Mud Marine will not lead to serious issues like “old tank syndrome” or a “nutrient sink,” which can occur with most DSBs. Such problems can disrupt the aquatic environment, leading to persistent high levels of phosphate and nitrate, as well as unwanted algal growth.
