Reef Dip is formulated with an elemental iodine complex that is combined with a protective slime coat, making it a safe and gentle choice for disinfecting corals. It effectively targets bacteria, fungi, and protozoans, and can be used either as a preventive measure or to treat diseased specimens. This product is suitable for both stony and soft corals, as well as for anemones and polyps.

Seachem Reef Dip provides a protective slime coat that envelops the coral, ensuring that the iodine remains in contact with the affected area for an extended duration. Additionally, the slime coat helps to prevent reinfection at the treatment site.

Directions

Do not use in the aquarium.
Prepare a separate container. Remove 4 liters (1 US gallon) of water from the aquarium to a suitable container for dipping.
Add 5–10 mL (1–2 capfuls) of Seachem Reef Dip and mix thoroughly.
Place the coral specimen in the dip for 15–30 minutes, depending on the severity of the issue. In very severe cases, a double dose may be applied. For visible lesions, you may apply the dip concentrate directly onto the lesions before immersing the coral in the dip.
Monitor the animals during treatment for signs of adverse reactions, such as excessive sliming.

FAQ

Can Seachem Reef Dip be used when there are coral crabs and/or shrimp on the acropora? I would like to use this dip but I have them on my acroporas.

A: No, it is not advisable to use this dip with crabs or shrimps present on your acropora. Please remove them or gently shake them off before proceeding with the dip.

Does Reef Dip protect against hydroids? My plan was to dip my live rock, corals, and macro algae before placing them into the aquarium to eliminate any lurking hydroids.

A: There are many opinions regarding the use of live rock with dwarfs due to hydroids (which encompass a broad range of cnidarians). You may want to consider using “dead” rock and allowing some time to establish your own biological system naturally. Reef Dip is not effective for this purpose, as it primarily combats bacterial and protozoan infections. I recommend being cautious and refraining from introducing anything else that could pose a threat. If you still wish to add macro algae, be sure to rinse them thoroughly and inspect any new specimens very carefully. Please note that even with precautions, there is no guarantee against hydroid infections.

Is it safe to use Seachem Reef Dip with Tridacna Clams as a preventative measure?

A: Reef Dip is specifically intended for corals and anemones. We do not recommend it for clams. However, if you believe your clam is diseased, you may consider dipping it in a very dilute solution of Reef Dip at your own risk, although this is not a common practice.

Is there a dip that can help to recover my acropora species?

A: The disinfectant properties of Reef Dip will certainly assist these corals by eliminating any infectious bacteria or protozoans. Bleaching may also result from high water temperatures. If this is the case, the best solution is to find a way to cool your water, such as using a chiller.
