API Copper Test Kit for fresh- and saltwater aquarium
Copper is a common treatment for various parasitic infections and it is essential to monitor its levels in your aquarium or pond. If the copper level drops too low, the treatment may not work effectively, while an excess can harm your fish’s health. It is also possible that copper is present in your tap water.
The API COPPER TEST KIT makes it easy for you to accurately monitor copper levels, ensuring that your copper-based fish treatments remain at therapeutic levels. This kit tests copper levels ranging from 0 to 4 ppm, measuring both free and chelated copper. It is suitable for both fresh and saltwater aquariums, as well as ponds.
The kit includes:
- 90 tests
- 1 test bottle
- Easy-to-read instructions
- Glass test tube
- Color chart
Why Test for Copper?
Copper is frequently used to treat parasitic infections in both fresh and saltwater fish. To be effective, it is important to maintain the copper concentration at therapeutic levels for several weeks. Regular testing is necessary to keep track of these levels.
Be cautious, as copper should not be used in aquariums with invertebrates, such as snails, shrimp, crayfish, and corals, or in tanks with live plants. Additionally, some fish species are particularly sensitive to copper treatments. Remember, copper can also enter your aquarium through tap water that may contain copper leached from pipes.
Testing Tips
This test kit measures the total copper (both free and chelated) in parts per million (ppm) or milligrams per liter (mg/L) from 0 to 4.0 ppm (mg/L). Chelated copper compounds are stable and can remain in solution for extended periods, while free copper levels can decline quickly and should be tested daily.
