D-D Aqua Scape Purple is a two-part epoxy putty for use in salt water and freshwater aquariums
Aquascape is a two-part epoxy putty designed by D-D specifically for salt water and freshwater aquariums, as well as various underwater applications. In marine aquariums, it is perfect for bonding live rock, allowing you to create intricate structures and prevent rock falls caused by turbo snails, sea urchins, and strong currents. It is also useful for preparing coral frags and creating clam bases to protect them from bristle worms, which can be quite harmful. Additionally, Aquascape can be utilized to repair leaking pipework, broken equipment, or to bond items to aquarium glass.
Aquascape has been crafted to be stickier than most epoxies, making it easier to bond with wet substrates. The purple version dries underwater, resembling the color of coralline algae, which helps it blend in more naturally within a marine aquarium until it becomes encrusted with true coralline algae. However, it is important to note that when cured out of water, the color darkens to a deeper red, similar to the color of coralline algae. For freshwater aquariums and repairing liners in preformed ponds, the Rock Grey version may be more suitable, but both colors are versatile enough for any environment.
Suggested Uses
- Bonding rock to rock and creating bases during aquascaping.
- Positioning and bonding corals within the aquarium.
- Fragging corals to frag bases.
- Creating clam bases.
- Repairing leaking pipework and equipment.
- Plus numerous other general uses in the aquarium and around the home.
Applications for Aquascape in a Marine Aquarium
Coral Fragging and Propagation
Aquascape is excellent for working with coral frags. It can be used to attach corals to frag bases or directly to rocks, and it is easily overgrown by corals or coralline algae. When positioning larger corals, it is advisable to apply the Aquascape to the coral and rinse it in a container of tank water to remove any residues before placing it in position.
Note: It is essential to support heavy rocks, corals, and overhangs until the putty sets properly.
Clam Protection
Clams are particularly vulnerable to bristle worms, especially when placed on sandy or gravel substrates. If you have experienced clam deaths in the past, this may be the reason, as the worms can attack the base of the clam at night, slowly consuming it from the inside. By shaping an Aquascape base to fit the individual clam before positioning it in the aquarium, the clam will adhere to the base and protect itself from attacks.
Rock Structures
Snails, fish, and urchins can inadvertently cause movement and overturn rocks and corals in the aquarium. Therefore, it is always recommended to bond rock structures and corals together to prevent rockslides and disturbances to the system. Blobs of Aquascape can also create feet on the base of foundation rocks for added stability and to elevate the rock above the substrate, thus preventing the development of anoxic areas.
