Deltec UV Sterilizer an excellent choice for maintaining the health and clarity of aquarium water
Deltec T5 UV Sterilizers are specifically designed for aquarium use, offering exceptional performance and reliability. These sterilizers are compact yet powerful, surpassing conventional UV sterilizers due to their advanced construction. Both the T5 tube and the protective tube are made of high-quality quartz, ensuring superior durability and performance.
The UV filter is highly effective at eliminating algae in suspension, resulting in crystal-clear water for saltwater aquariums. Additionally, it neutralizes harmful bacteria and pathogens, significantly reducing the risk of infections for fish. This ensures a healthier and more stable aquatic environment, promoting the well-being of your aquarium inhabitants.
Equipped with an electronic ballast and a T5 lamp, the sterilizers provide consistent radiation transmission, maximum efficiency, and an extended lifespan of up to 9,000 hours. These features make Deltec T5 UV Sterilizers an excellent choice for maintaining the health and clarity of aquarium water.
UV Sterilisers
The use of type C ultraviolet radiation (UV-C) is considered the most effective method to sterilize water. This process requires no chemicals, eliminating the risk of dangerous overdosing. Moreover, sterilization occurs instantaneously, with no long process times needed.
The highly concentrated UV-C energy has a lethal effect on living organisms by altering their genetic material (DNA) and inhibiting their ability to reproduce. The germicidal properties of UV-C radiation are highly effective in destroying bacteria, viruses, protozoa, algae, yeasts, and mould spores.
Different types of pathogens or bacteria require varying levels of radiation to either kill or stop them from functioning and multiplying. Deltec U.V. sterilisers are designed to produce a radiation intensity of 33,000 microwatts/sec/sq.cm, which is sufficient to destroy most common pathogens in both fresh and saltwater aquariums. However, if needed, the intensity can be increased by reducing the flow rate through the unit.
Transmission Loss
Quartz is known to be 96-98% transparent to UV-C radiation, while normal glass reduces its transmission by approximately 50%. This is why UV sterilisers feature a quartz sleeve between the water and the bulb.
However, many people are unaware that conventional UV sterilisers produce UV radiation from a conventional glass tube, causing half of the intensity to be lost before the radiation even exits the tube. In contrast, the Deltec UV Sterilisers feature a pure quartz bulb and a quartz sleeve, allowing 98% of the UV-C produced to be utilized. This means that the models produce nearly twice as much UV-C per watt compared to conventional units with a glass bulb, making them much more compact and easier to fit into aquarium cabinets.
Features
- Slimline high intensity quartz bulb with ceramic cap for effective thermal insulation.
- Electronic ballast for flicker-free operation, doubling the lifespan of the bulb.
- Pure quartz sleeve prevents thermal shocks and maintains the lamp at the optimal temperature for maximum UV-C output, regardless of the water temperature.
- Reinforced UV-resistant plastic body prevents degradation over time.
- Single-ended design and waterproof insulation to CE IP67 standard.
- Allows partial submersion of the body in a sump, reducing space requirements for installation.
- Viton gasket for a long-term UV-resistant seal.
- Can be easily connected together to form banks of UV units using standard pipework.
