WHAT IS GENESIS ROCK?
Genesis Rock is a 100% ceramic compound that is fired at over 600 degrees, ensuring it lasts for years in your aquarium. Each block provides over 23,000 square feet of space for beneficial aquarium bacteria, significantly enhancing filtration power while reducing phosphates, nitrates, and other dissolved organic compounds. You can use Genesis Rock in both fresh and saltwater aquariums, placing it beneath your sand or rock substrate, in your refugium, or even hidden within your aquascape.
GENESIS ROCK DIRECTIONS:
Each Genesis Rock can support aquariums up to 1300 liters in size, and our kit includes two rocks, providing coverage for 2600 liters. For tanks with heavier bio loads, such as predator tanks, we recommend increasing the coverage. Rinse the rocks well with purified water, preferably using aquarium water. Our design ensures zero leaching, so there is minimal dust, but a rinse is advisable to be safe.
To prepare the Genesis Rock, place it in a plastic container filled with aquarium water, then add your preferred bacterial product (we recommend Polyplab Genesis). The amount of bacteria to add depends on the size of your aquarium. Allow the Genesis Rocks to soak for at least 12 hours before placing them inside your aquarium. If you choose not to use a bacterial supplement, you can add the rocks directly after rinsing. Dispose of the soaking water to prevent any microscopic dust from entering your aquarium.
Using more blocks than the recommended capacity is absolutely fine and will further enhance your filtration power.
Aerobic – Optimized for Nitrite and Ammonia Removal
To promote aerobic bacteria with the Genesis Rocks, position the blocks above water level over your refugium, overflow, or suspended in your system. Allow tank water to flow over the rocks, directing the overflow into your sump, refugium, or display. Please do not run the entire system flow over the rocks; an estimated flow of around 40 gallons per hour is ideal for this application.
Anaerobic – Optimized for Nitrate Removal
For nitrate removal, install the Genesis Rocks in a low flow area, minimizing oxygen exposure below the waterline. This could be in a low flow section of your sump or refugium, beneath your sand, or within your aquascape. Anaerobic bacteria thrive in these low oxygen environments, effectively breaking down nitrates.
Aerobic & Anaerobic – Optimized for General Performance
To achieve balanced performance, install the Genesis Rocks in a medium flow area of your tank, sump, or refugium. This placement allows aerobic bacteria to flourish on the exterior of the rocks while anaerobic bacteria develop in the inner sections.
*Ensure that you do not place the Genesis Rock in areas where it may come into contact with other equipment, as this could cause damage, such as with a vibrating protein skimmer.
