HydroCarbon2 Granular activated carbon designed specifically for water purification

HydroCarbon2® Granular activated carbon is specially crafted for water purification. It effectively removes dissolved organic compounds that cause water discoloration. The highly porous granules are perfectly sized for high-capacity filters, allowing for efficient water flow with minimal backpressure. Importantly, it does not leach phosphates.

Directions: Use approximately 125 ml of HydroCarbon 2 G.A.C. for every 189 liters of water.

First, pour the required amount into a polyester or nylon filter bag. Take the dry bag of HydroCarbon 2 G.A.C. outside along with a container partially filled with tap water for rinsing. Immerse the closed bag into the container of water. You will notice the porous carbon sizzles as it hydrates, releasing carbon dust into the air and rinsing water. Please do not breathe in the dust! Shake the bag underwater and repeatedly lift and immerse it to wash away most of the fine dust. The resulting black water is safe to pour down a drain or into the soil outdoors.

Locating the HydroCarbon: For quick removal of water-staining organic materials and other pollutants, place the pre-rinsed HydroCarbon 2 G.A.C. bag in a filter chamber with water flowing through it. Using filter floss before the bag helps trap fine particles that could clog it. You may also use it without a filter bag in external power filters by positioning filter floss above and below the carbon to retain it.

Important: When using in a high-flow filter chamber, make sure to close the bag tightly to keep the carbon granules packed. This prevents them from tumbling, which could release carbon dust into the water. HydroCarbon 2 G.A.C. can also be used passively, without filter floss, by placing it in a filter chamber where water flows over and through the bag but is not forced through it exclusively. Continuous passive use still effectively prevents the accumulation of yellowing substances, keeping your water sparkling clear. Replace with new HydroCarbon 2 G.A.C. as needed to maintain clear water; it is typically effective for several months.

Important: Keep this container tightly closed to avoid air pollution from being adsorbed. Do not use HydroCarbon 2 G.A.C. while medicating the aquarium. It can be used to remove medications from the water once treatment is complete, but it should be discarded afterward.

Ozone: HydroCarbon 2 G.A.C. effectively eliminates ozone when placed in the water stream exiting an ozone contact chamber, such as a protein skimmer or oxygen reactor. For this purpose, it should be changed once a month.

Warning: Rapid removal of yellowing substances significantly impacts light penetration in water, especially UV light. This can negatively affect corals that have adapted to the light spectrum altered by yellow water. Corals may not tolerate sudden exposure to UV wavelengths. If no activated carbon has been used for an extended period without a water change, please shade the corals when using the carbon again, and gradually acclimate them to the light over a few weeks.
