a. Miracle Mud is the most economical refugium filter substrate available for removing nitrate from system water! Unlike other substrates that require a minimum of 6 inches (15 cm) of deep sand bed (DSB) for effective denitrification, Miracle Mud only needs a 1-inch (2.5 cm) deep layer. Do your research! Multiply the price of other products by a factor of 4 to 6!

b. Unlike other refugium substrates, Miracle Mud does not lead to serious issues like “old tank syndrome” or a “nutrient sink,” which often occur with most DSBs. These problems can disrupt the aquatic balance (such as persistent high levels of phosphate and nitrate, along with unwanted algae growth). The fine consistency of Miracle Mud prevents waste materials from settling at the bottom of the refugium substrate, a common issue with other products.
