Calcean Oolitic Aragonite Bahamian sand (0.5-1mm) – 4.5 kg
Calcium carbonate derived from oolitic aragonite is both biogenic and naturally occurring. You can help protect the reef by choosing this superior and sustainable substrate. By avoiding coral sand, you are contributing to the preservation of the world’s coral reefs. Bahamian sand is raw, naturally renewable oolitic aragonite sand that is up to 98% pure calcium carbonate. The grains are oolitic (egg-shaped) and smooth. It is tasteless, odorless, dustless, and sustainable. With its near chemical purity, size consistency, and small grain structure, Bahamian aragonite offers numerous advantages, making it an exceptional source of calcium carbonate.
Why Use Oolitic Aragonite?
Bahamian Aragonite Aquarium Sand is the perfect substrate for marine, reef, or African Cichlid aquariums. This pure oolitic aragonite sand is collected from the crystal-clear oceans of the Bahamas and does not contain any harmful tar, organics, or impurities. This aquarium sand boasts unparalleled buffering capability and aids in maintaining a natural pH balance of 8.2 without the need for constant chemical additions. Just one kg of Oolitic Aragonite Aquarium Sand provides over 1 million sq. cm of surface area, creating ample space for housing ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite-reducing bacteria. The grain size of Oolitic Aragonite Sand is ideal for reef tanks, fish tanks, plenum systems, and refugiums.
Key Benefits:
- Stunning oolitic aragonite is naturally renewable.
- Contains 98% calcium carbonate and is phosphate-free.
- This substrate is harvested ethically from the crystal-clear oceans of the Bahamas.
- Does not contain any tar, organics, or impurities.
- Helps maintain a natural pH balance of 8.2 in your aquarium.
Directions:
Rinse the material thoroughly in a bucket using clean water. Please do not use soap or any other cleaning agents. Continue to rinse until the overflow water changes from a milky appearance to a light cloudy one. Any remaining cloudiness will clear up after a few hours of pump operation.
For the best results when setting up a new aquarium, place the rinsed sand into an empty aquarium and then carefully fill it with water. Start your filtration system and wait until the water is clear enough to see the back of the aquarium, ensuring that the chemical, pH, and temperature levels are stable before adding fish and invertebrates.
For existing aquariums, rinse the substrate as mentioned above and mix in small amounts into the established sand bed over several days. If you are using aragonite for African cichlids or other freshwater applications, please note that a slight cloudiness may remain until the aquarium cycles due to high rates of calcium carbonate dissolution.
