Seachem Prime 100ml is the complete and concentrated conditioner for both fresh and salt water
Product Description
Prime® is a versatile and concentrated conditioner suitable for both fresh and salt water. It effectively removes chlorine, chloramine, and ammonia from your water. Additionally, Prime® converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that can be easily eliminated by your tank’s biofilter. It is also helpful during tank cycling, as it alleviates ammonia and nitrite toxicity. Furthermore, Prime® detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, enhancing the biofilter’s efficiency in removing them. It can neutralize any heavy metals typically found in tap water, and it promotes the production and regeneration of the natural slime coat. Importantly, Prime® is non-acidic, ensuring it does not affect pH levels, and it will not overactivate skimmers. This product is ideal for use at start-up and whenever you are adding or replacing water.
Why It Is Different
While many companies offer products that remove chlorine, none match the quality, concentration, or effectiveness of Seachem’s flagship product: Prime®. In fact, Prime® is the second most concentrated dechlorinator available on the market. A single 100 mL bottle can treat up to 1000 US gallons of tap water, efficiently removing both chlorine and chloramines from municipal water supplies.
Prime® also includes a binder that renders ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate non-toxic. It is crucial to understand how these functions work together. All dechlorinators operate through a chemical process known as reduction. During this process, toxic dissolved chlorine gas (Cl2) is converted into non-toxic chloride ions (Cl-). Additionally, the reduction process breaks the bonds between chlorine and nitrogen atoms in the chloramine molecule (NH2Cl), freeing the chlorine atoms and replacing them with hydrogen (H) to create ammonia (NH3). Many dechlorinators stop at this point, leaving you with an aquarium full of toxic ammonia. Seachem goes a step further by including an ammonia binder to detoxify the ammonia produced during the reduction process.
When purchasing water conditioners, be cautious. If your municipality uses chloramines in its water supply, a standard sodium thiosulfate dechlorinator will not suffice. Prime® encourages the natural production and restoration of the slime coat, rather than relying on artificial or non-native slime compounds. For reef hobbyists, there is an added benefit—Prime® will not overactivate protein skimmers.
Directions
To use, simply apply 1 capful (5 mL) for every 200 L (50 gallons*) of new water. This dosage removes approximately 1 mg/L ammonia, 4 mg/L chloramine, or 5 mg/L chlorine. For smaller doses, please remember that each cap thread is approximately 1 mL. You may add it directly to the aquarium, but it is preferable to add it to new water first. If adding directly to the aquarium, base the dose on the aquarium’s volume. A sulfur odor is normal. For exceptionally high chloramine concentrations, you may safely use a double dose. In an emergency situation, to detoxify nitrite, up to 5 times the normal dose may be used. If the temperature exceeds 30 °C (86 °F) and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, a half dose is recommended.
